The World Racquetball Tour (WRT) was a professional men’s racquetball tour that started in 2012 and expired in 2018. They worked exclusively with the International Racquetball Federation (IRF), an organization which governs the sport and hosts the Pan American Championships and the World Championships. These respective organizations found me traveling the entirety of the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia and Chile to cover and broadcast these spectacular athletes and events.
I started with the tour in 2014 managing everything from on-air talent, commentating matches (by learning on the job), setting up and switching (via Tricaster) during the live broadcast, capturing B-roll in down time, editing highlights and promos for use on the broadcast and on Facebook, and working with the players to create interviews and personal stories to capture the human side of the sport and the athletes.
From start to finish for each event, I worked with tournament directors, players and staff to produce the event under the umbrella of Sport Online Productions. Although the tour has since folded, it was an incredible opportunity to work from the ground up, troubleshoot on the fly and become comfortable working on and producing all aspects of a live production. This position also challenged me to learn new skills in Adobe After Effects and the dynamics of producing and shooting outside events to enhance the quality of the broadcast.
